At the end of September, there was 13.6GW of wind under construction across the US and another 6.7GW in advanced development, according to new figures from the American Wind Energy Association.

The under-construction figure is close to the all-time high of nearly 15GW the US industry notched in 2014, and demonstrates that the market has rebounded strongly on the back of the multi-year extension of the Production Tax Credit.

“To put the 20GW of wind capacity under development in perspective, consider that the entire US wind fleet just recently passed 75GW,” says AWEA chief executive Tom Kiernan.
