The Skwid — which pairs a three-bladed vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) with a Savonius ocean-current turbine — sank on 18 December, roughly 1.2km off the coast of Kabe Island, near the city of Karatsu, Saga prefecture.
In October 2013, the machine’s marine turbine component sank in Japan’s Inland Sea, off the northern coast of Kyushu.
The incident forced the Tokyo-based company to delay its installation plans until 30 October of this year.
