The company had planned to open the factory in Fort Smith, Arkansas, earlier this year.
However, MHI’s board of directors decided at a meeting last week to “mothball” the plant, spokesman Hideo Ikuno tells Recharge.
The board has also approved an inventory write-down relating to its onshore wind turbine business, according to a statement on MHI’s website.
MHI revealed plans for a 600MW manufacturing plant in Arkansas in 2009 to support growth in its main market.
