Ming Yang Smart Energy unveiled plans to install an 11MW offshore wind turbine prototype next year in another step-up in power by China’s OEMs – and said it has its sights set on winning business in Europe as well as at home.

Ming Yang said the MySE11-203 – which it’s launching as “the world's biggest hybrid-drive wind turbine” – will be commercially available from 2022.

The 203-metre diameter rotor features 99-metre carbon-glass hybrid blades, while the OEM is billing “the aerospace industry heritage” of its hybrid platform and medium-speed gearbox.
