Last year saw 682MW switched on in the region – the result of a "low year" in South Africa – which translated into a 39% decrease in installation rates. But Make forecasts a 90% bounce-back as construction in South Africa, Egypt, Morocco and "certain countries" in the Middle East gets on track.

"The Middle East and Africa is the smallest sub-region globally in terms of cumulative installed capacity at the end of 2015," says Make analyst Joffrey Dupuy.
