The $300m project is located in Tecate along Baja California’s Sierra de Juarez mountain range. It will connect with San Diego Gas & Electric’s Southwest Powerlink transmission system east of that city via a new cross-border transmission line.
SDG&E is buying electricity from the project through a 20-year agreement. The project is not connected to the Mexican power grid.
“This project will contribute to the sustainable development of the cross border region,” says IEnova chief executive Carlos Ruiz Sacristan.
