The legislature in Massachusetts passed a sweeping climate bill that raises targeted offshore wind procurement by 2.4GW to 5.6GW by 2035, a move that will open multiple development opportunities for companies holding leases off the US state’s southern coast.

The bill also enables the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to accelerate scheduling for offshore wind tenders and potentially require electric distribution companies (EDCs) in the state to “jointly and competitively solicit and procure proposals for offshore wind energy transmission” sufficient to deliver capacity awarded from those lease areas.
