Spain must auction off seabed leases, subsidy support and grid links simultaneously next year or miss a government-set target of having 3GW of floating wind plan operating off its coasts by 2030, according to the general director at the country’s wind energy association, AEE.

Juan Virgilio Marquez, speaking at an offshore wind congress in Bilbao in Spain’s Basque region, said he believed there is a general consensus between the government and wind sector that an upcoming floating wind auction should be a “hybrid tender” that would assign marine development zones, contract for difference (CfD) style support for 20 years, and the offshore grid connection.
