German utility RWE won a lottery to pick a winning bid to build Denmark’s 1GW Thor offshore wind farm after what Danish officials claimed was a landmark tender for the sector.

The German utility entered the lottery with other bidders after more than one offered to construct the project at the full 1GW scale and at the token bidding price of DKr0.10/MWh [$0.015/MWh].

The winning bidder will also fund the North Sea project’s grid connection, making the outcome “very promising for future tendering procedures for offshore wind energy and for the green transition” according to the Danish Energy Agency (DEA).
