A clutch of major offshore wind projects was left out in the cold after failing to secure support deals in the UK’s third contract for difference (CfD) auction.

As Equinor, SSE and Innogy celebrated their CfDs after record-low bids, notable outcasts after the 6GW round were Iberdrola’s 1.2GW East Anglia 3 (EA3) project off England’s east coast, and EDPR/Engie’s 800MW-plus Moray West in Scotland’s outer Moray Firth.

Also in Scotland, the Chinese-owned 700MW Inch Cape project located in the Firth of Forth, which was tipped to have submitted a bid, also did not appear on the list of winners.
