Irish voters passed the Lisbon Treaty – which will lead to a better organised EU with a stronger, more unified voice – with 67.1% in favour, and 32.9% against. That represents a 20% swing towards ‘yes’ compared to the first time the treaty was put before the Irish electorate in 2008.
Many of the European Commission’s plans for dramatically expanding renewable energy across the EU, from developing a competitive trans-continental energy market to building the grid infrastructure needed to bring massive amounts of offshore wind capacity on line, have been contingent on the eventual passage of the Lisbon Treaty.
Now
