Vattenfall has opened the Netherlands’ largest onshore wind farm, the 301MW Princess Ariane project, after three years of construction and ten years of preparations.

The wind farm, which consists of 82 Nordex 3.675MW N117 turbines, is a repowering project. The site had previously hosted 42 Vestas 1.65MW and 1.75MW turbines, which were dismantled in 2017.

Microsoft will buy the output from 50 of the 82 turbines to power its nearby data centres as part of a power-purchase agreement signed in 2017.
