German energy developer RWE has started testing airborne wind technology in Ireland in partnership with Dutch partner Kitepower, in a latest bid to harness the stronger and more persistent winds found at higher altitudes
The RWE test site, located in Bangor Erris, County Mayo, hosts facilities for flying a device that has a wingspan of 60 square metres and is held open by a hybrid inflatable membrane wing and reinforced fibreglass skeleton.
