If fully developed, the Meru wind farm would become the country’s largest and would outstrip the 310MW Lake Turkana project currently under construction in Kenya.
The Meru project took a big step forward in April when French development agency AFD signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to finance the first stage, which is also counting on backing from Germany’s KfW.
KenGen managing director Albert Mugo said the project is in line for up to €120m ($135m) of finance from the two agencies.
