Local power giant JERA lodged plans for a 600MW offshore wind farm in waters off Japan’s northern Aomori Prefecture, in another sign of the momentum gathering behind the sector there.

JERA submitted environmental impact documents for the wind farm on a 120 square km site, using turbines in the 9.5-15MW range on fixed-bottom foundations.

The project would take three years to build, said JERA, although it did not specify a construction schedule.
