A decade after Japan pioneered floating wind with Fukushima Forward, big hitters from its maritime, power and industrial sectors have hailed backing under a government scheme for projects that aim to raise the nation's capabilities with systems that can support turbines up to 15MW.

Four companies including major shipping players said on Monday they plan to pool their resources to develop a floating foundation and mooring systems, as well as the production and installation resources needed to get it into the sea at large scale.
