Japan’s Hitachi will stop producing turbines and instead focus on distributing machines made by Germany’s Enercon as it shifts its wind strategy to digitalisation and O&M, the company said.

Hitachi produces 5.2MW and 2MW turbines for onshore and offshore deployment, using ‘downwind’ rotor technology designed for Japanese conditions, a business it has wholly-owned since 2012 when it bought-out former joint venture partner Fuji Heavy Industries.
