The Kitakyushu Seaport and Airport Bureau will auction off at least 50MW of capacity for development across a 2,687-hectare area in the city’s port.
Prospective developers must have prior experience developing or operating projects of at least 10MW in size. Winners will be selected in January 2017.
"It is a very important milestone," said Naoaki Eguchi, head of Baker & McKenzie's banking and finance practice, adding that the auctions will provide a "good opportunity" for developers to build projects.
