The International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) and the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the world’s largest utility, have signed an agreement to deepen co-operation to accelerate the global energy transition via worldwide and regional initiatives, including the Paris Agreement and the Belt and Road initiative.

The framework of the agreement, signed by Irena director-general Adnan Amin and SGCC chairman Shu Yinbiao on the sidelines of the Eighth Clean Energy Ministerial in Beijing, China, is founded on developing decentralised smart grid system powered by plant-scale capacity wind and solar.
