Vestas will deliver some of its most powerful turbines to a 126MW project in Ireland that the OEM said will be the nation’s largest single wind farm so far once built in 2024.
The Danish group will supply 21 V150-6.0 MW EnVentus machines with 110-metre hub heights to the Derrinlough project in the Irish midlands after what developer Bord na Móna described as a “very competitive international tender process”.
The deal will mark the first deployment of the turbine model in Ireland, with delivery and installation at the site in County Offaly scheduled for early 2024.
Derrinlough was the largest project successful in Ireland’s latest auction for onshore renewables.
The nation is betting heavily on wind and solar power to help it meet stretching climate and energy goals, including an 80% renewable power share target for 2030.
As well as onshore, Ireland has launched an ambitious offshore wind programme with a first goal to have 7GW in the water by the end of the decade.
Bord na Móna renewables chief John Reilly said: “Bord na Móna is committed to green energy for the people of Ireland which is evident by the investment of over €150m ($159m) by the company in the development of this project.”
State-backed Bord na Móna is also active offshore, notably via a November link-up with global player Ocean Winds that aims to jointly advance 2.3GW of projects.
