The European Union could end up building less than half the new wind capacity needed to stay on track to reach the energy and climate targets set out in the EU Green Deal, industry advocacy body WindEurope has cautioned.

Europe as a whole added 17.4GW in new wind power in 2021, bringing its total installed capacity to 236GW, led by the UK (2.6GW added), Sweden (2.1GW), Germany (1.9GW), Turkey (1.4GW) and the Netherlands (1.3GW), WindEurope reported, as it released its annual statistics for last year and forecasts through to 2026.
