“Political will” and a need to meet the booming energy demand of a growing population should see the first large-scale offshore wind in Indian waters by 2030, trumping a list of negatives facing the sector including power cost and wind speeds, said analyst Aegir Insights.

The Asian economic giant – set to overtake China as the world’s most populous nation – is likely to miss a government target of 30GW of offshore wind by the end of the decade but will still deploy commercial-scale capacity by then, said Aegir in a new report on the prospects for the sector in India.
