An activist shareholder has ramped up the pressure on SSE over the UK utility’s strategy for its renewable energy operation, repeating calls for a split-off of the business and slamming what it claims is a lack of renewables experience on its “inadequate” board.

Elliott Advisors – which is calling for SSE’s renewable energy operation to be separated from its networks business and listed, a move it claims could unlock £5bn ($6.6bn)
