The US government has given a boost to the 2GW Empire Wind offshore wind project being developed by Equinor and partner BP off the east coast of the country, with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announcing the start to the environmental review that could clear the giant development to start construction.

BOEM, the arm of the Department of the Interior responsible for all development of energy resources on the US outer continental shelf, today (Thursday) published a notice of intent (NoI) for an environmental impact statement (EIS) on the developer’s construction and operations plan (COP) for Empire Wind, the lead off phase of which was awarded in New York’s 2019 solicitation.
