The report, published jointly by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Greenpeace, highlights striking differences between the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) subdued predictions for wind energy and more aggressive predictions, which envisage wind becoming a mainstream source of electricity within a few decades.

The report uses figures provided by the IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2009 for its baseline “reference” scenario, starting with the 158.5GW
