Iberdrola is to close its 355MW Lada coal-fired power station in northwest Spain, with the workers being retrained to perform operations and maintenance (O&M) work on four new wind farms totalling 130MW that will be built nearby.

Decommissioning of the facility in the Asturias province, which has now been approved by the Spanish government, will take place over the next four-and-a-half years, with all employees continuing to work there until its closure before being offered retraining or early retirement.
