Iberdrola has connected its 350MW Wikinger project to the German grid, in another landmark for the Spanish energy group’s expanding offshore wind base.

The Baltic Sea wind farm was the first to be built by Iberdrola alone, and the company highlighted “technology challenges and extreme weather complications” as it hailed delivery of the €1.4bn ($1.67bn) project over 18 months.

Wikinger uses 5MW Adwen turbines and includes the 8,500-tonne Andalusia substation.
