Iberdrola sealed planning approval for its 476MW Baltic Eagle project that will be the next element of its €3.5bn ($3.8bn) gigawatt-scale Baltic Hub ambitions.

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) gave its final OK to the project, which will deploy 50 Vestas V174 9.5MW turbines next year for planned commissioning in 2024, the Spanish renewables giant said.

Iberdrola is now beginning the hunt for unexploded ordnance on the seabed ahead of the start of offshore construction.
