Jetting out across the storm-roughened North Sea on the inaugural flyover of the Hywind Scotland wind project, the array’s five slender white turbines come into view looking much like any among the thousands of machines turning off Europe. But it is what lies beneath the waves here that could change the face of the global energy system.
