The $340m project is the second largest wind farm in Africa, after the 310MW Lake Turkana site in Kenya, and one of the biggest involving Chinese companies outside of China.

HydroChina International Engineeering developed the site, which is located about 95km southeast of the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

It is powered by 102 of Sany Heavy Industry’s 1.5MW turbines.

The project was backed by Export-Import Bank of China, Sinohydro said in an online statement, without disclosing additional details.
