The consortium behind the offshore pilot — which is backed by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) — will tow the turbine and spar apparatus to the east coast of the island of Honshu from 1 July.
Hitachi Zosen built the advanced spar floater in Sakai, Osaka prefecture.
Last week, the structure was towed to the port of Sumoto, on Awaji Island in Hyogo prefecture, according to a statement on the website of consortium member Japan Marine United.
