Heerema has been awarded a contract to install part of the 900MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a projects off Taiwan for Danish utility Orsted.
The Dutch contractor is slated to transport and install 111 turbine foundations as well as two large offshore substations for the project at between 35 and 60 kilometres off the coast of Changhua county in the Asian island state at water depths of 30-35 metres.
Heerema plans to execute the offshore work at the twin arrays in 2021 and 2022 with its fast sailing heavy lift vessel Aegir that is already in the area for another project.
“Heerema has got what it takes to be a leader in the renewables market: great vessels and highly skilled and experienced people that are always eager to co-operate,” the contractor’s chief executive Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven marvelled.
“We will continue to participate in ambitious and sustainable projects like Greater Changhua.”
Orsted has obtained site exclusivity on four offshore wind sites off Taiwan with a combined capacity of 2.4GW, and last year was awarded capacity for two projects of 900 and 920MW, Hereema said.
