Mexico’s Grupo Bimbo has signed a virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) with Invenergy to receive 100MW of wind energy, a key step toward enabling the largest global baking company to fully power its US operations with renewables by 2020.

Starting in third quarter 2019, electricity output from Invenergy’s planned Santa Rita East wind farm in Texas will be matched with energy consumption from Grupo Bimbo’s US operations through the virtual PPA.

According to the companies, this will allow Grupo Bimbo to reduce its CO2 emissions by 260,000 tons annually in the US.
