Web giant Google became the latest corporate buyer to sign up for power from a 900MW German offshore wind farm that Orsted is planning to build without subsidies in the North Sea.

The internet behemoth will buy power from 50MW of the Borkum Riffgrund 3 project under a 12-year deal, the Danish developer said on Tuesday.

Google is one of the world’s largest buyers of green energy as it bids to decarbonise its global fleet of datacentres and other operations.
