The PMDD generators will be used for Goldwind’s 1.5MW and 2.5MW turbines.
A spokesperson for the Beijing-based wind turbine manufacturer declined to say how many PMDD generator units the company will purchase under the deal, which was first revealed by Chinese-language media outlets.
Shanxi-based Yongji Electric, a unit of China Northern Railways, also makes traction motors, electric control devices and components for diesel and electric locomotives.
Goldwind — China’s biggest turbine manufacturer last year — says PMDD turbines tend to cost less to produce due to the use of fewer components, and claims that they generally require less maintenance than geared turbines.
