Goldwind Americas has put the final touches to its flagship test turbine in the US, a 3MW(S)-model machine erected at West Texas A&M University in Texas – the tallest turbine in the country and a “statement of intent” according to the OEM’s new chief executive David Sale.

The turbine, launched into the Chinese market in late 2016, is a “smart” design with a hub height of 130-metres that flies a 136-metre-rotor to power the company’s PMDD (permanent magnet direct drive) transmission.
