Worldwide wind power installations surged by 53% to reach a record 93GW last year, with the sector showing strong resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) said.

That brought the cumulative global wind power capacity to 743GW, helping the word to avoid more than 1.1 billion tons of CO2 per year – equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of all of South America.
