Record 2020 for global wind power 'still only half what's needed'

Worldwide wind power installations surged by 53% to reach a record 93GW last year, with the sector showing strong resilience in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) said.

That brought the cumulative global wind power capacity to 743GW, helping the word to avoid more than 1.1 billion tons of CO₂ per year – equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of all of South America.
