Wind speed data collection could start this summer for a 720MW floating array in the Celtic Sea off the south coast of Ireland, as part of a range of lead-off site investigation work by marine renewables developer DP Energy.

Three laser-guided Lidar wind measurement units would be installed at the Inis Ealga project site, located in 50-80 metres of water around 10km off Power Head, County Cork, in a first concrete step to develop the giant project, the company said in a so-called foreshore licence application to the Irish authorities.
