Norwegian utility Statkraft has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Germany’s railway operator Deutsche Bahn to supply it electricity from old wind farms that no longer receive support under the country’s EEG-scheme.

The PPA is for close to 40,000 megawatt hours of electricity produced and will allow some 70 older wind turbines to continue operations after they lost their EEG support, which is granted for a period of 20 years.
