Germany’s economics and energy minister Peter Altmaier in a draft proposal seen by Recharge suggestsgiving communities a share of the revenue of new wind farms, or nearby residents the option of lower electricity prices, in order to increase the acceptance of new projects.

The proposal that still needs to gain approval within Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition of Christian Democrats (CDU/CSU) and Social Democrats (SPD) comes after a plunge in German onshore wind additions that in part is caused by the opposition to new projects by not-in-my-backyard (Nimby) protest groups.
