A German law to skim off ‘excessive’ renewable – and other low generation cost – revenue from energy generation will now kick in on 1 December 2022, the cabinet of Chancellor Olaf Scholz decided late Friday.

The December start-date in part soothes criticism by the energy sector about the degree of ‘retroactivity’ of the measure, as the government in an earlier draft of the legislation had planned to hit revenues back to September.
