US power giant GE’s grid division has started early design work with Asian marine contractor Sembcorp Marine on the high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system for developer RWE’s $3bn Sofia offshore wind project in the North Sea.
GE’s Grid Solutions will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of two HVDC converter stations being built by Sembcorp that will capable of exporting power from the 1.4GW
