GE Renewable Energy has publicly unveiled its new onshore wind turbine platform for the North America market, the 3.0-3.4MW Sierra, putting rival OEMs on notice that it is shifting up a gear to compete in a market segment it sees having key growth potential.

Engineered around a 140-metre rotor and range of tower heights, including an option of less than 500-feet (152.4 metres), the design also includes GE’s revolutionary 68.7-metre, two-piece blade, fashioned to help improve logistics, installation, and serviceability of the machines.
