GE Renewable Energy is in line to supply a 1GW wind farm project in Australia, according to local media.

GE has linked with developer West Wind Energy to advance its Golden Plains wind farm in the state of Victoria, said the local Geelong Advertiser.

Golden Plains received planning consent from the Victoria government early this year and an environmental green light from federal authorities earlier in August.

The project is set to deploy 800MW-1GW of turbines on a site near Rokewood in the Golden Plains Shire, in what would be among the biggest wind farms in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere.

If confirmed, the Golden Plains link would be another huge boost for GE Renewable Energy just weeks after it clinched the biggest deal yet for its Cypress onshore wind platform, when it was confirmed as supplier to the 244MW Bango project in the Australian state of New South Wales.

West Wind Energy Australia, a unit of the Germany-based developer of the same name, is advancing a total of five projects in Australia, according to its website.

GE Renewable Energy and West Wind Energy have both been contacted for comment by Recharge.
