The Michigan utility, which must source 10% of its electricity from renewables by 2015 under state mandate, will outfit its Sigel, Minden, McKinley and Chandler projects, totaling 220MW. DTE will invest $500m in total.

GE says that it has received $3.6bn in orders for the 1.6MW machine with 100-metre blades since it was introduced last year. The machine is designed to squeeze more power out of low wind sites and deliver high capacity factors.
