The renewables industry has been abuzz with speculation in recent weeks that both General Electric (GE) and Siemens have committed themselves internally to setting up turbine manufacturing facilities in the UK in order to take advantage of Round 3.

GE has struck first, claiming it will invest €110m in a UK factory that could create 2,000 jobs by 2020. The firm adds that it will also attempt to lure suppliers of towers, blades, nacelles and other offshore components to the site.
