The £58m ($93.4m) project, located in County Londonderry, was initially refused by the Northern Ireland Planning Service. But with Belfast having recently decided that AONB designation does not preclude a site from renewables development, the project was given the green light upon appeal.
“We have now secured planning approval for over 80MW of wind energy developments in Northern Ireland,” says Gaelectric chief executive Brendan McGrath, with the Dunbeg site accounting for more than half the total.
