China’s first attempt to advance an offshore wind project using super-sized 10MW turbines has stalled after developer Funeng Haixia, a business unit of local government-backed Fuijan Energy, scrapped an already-awarded tender.

The developer on 12 December abruptly rewrote the tender rules for its Changle Outer Sea Area C project off Fujian province, despite only a week earlier awarding the 80MW first phase of the 498MW development to Dongfang Electric Wind (DEW), which planned to deploy its new 10MW turbine as the first double-digit machine in Chinese waters.
