France mulls 22-27GW onshore wind target by 2023

The French government by the end of February plans to publish a new draft of its multi annual energy plan (PPE) that foresees a substantial build-up of onshore and offshore wind, environment minister Ségolène Royal said at a recent energy meeting, according to wind industry body France Énergie Éolienne (FEE).

The government in the plan targets 21.8-27GW in installed onshore capacity to be built by 2023, the FEE said.

France at the end of 2015 broke through the 10GW-barrier in accumulated onshore wind capacity.

The PPE also envisages a 3GW installed offshore wind target by 2023, plus between 500MW and 3GW in additional volume to be awarded upcoming offshore wind tenders, probably starting in 2016 with a third round to be launched by the end of the year.
