Floating wind technologies have taken the vast majority of a $10m pot of R&D funding awarded by the US’ National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium (NOWRDC).

The twelve winning projects, which also included research into grid stability, digital twinning and metocean data collection, join another eight projects previously awarded backing by NOWRDC, taking the total awarded to $17.3m.

“Today’s announcement builds on our collective commitment to drive down costs and make offshore wind more a competitive alternative in generating energy,” said NOWRDC executive director Carrie Cullen Hitt.
